3 Things to consider when buying your family home

Buying your family home is a big deal, many of us don’t move very often and there is a huge investment in moving when you factor into it stamp duty, legal fees and other things such as search fees.

So making sure you purchase the right home for you is key to making sure you love where you move to and it can bring many years of happiness to your family without the need to move. If you are in the process of looking to move or may be considering moving in the near future, here are 5 things to consider when buying your new family home.

Location –

For me location for our next home is key. It will be all about getting the right balance between travelling to and from work but giving us the countryside views and living that we all need. We have grown up in a busy town and are starting to feel a little boxed in so we are very much looking forward to getting out in the countryside and enjoying the views and fresh air. Picking a location that suits your family’s needs is very important and will be one of the deciding factors in many moves.

Parking –

This might not mean much to some people, especially if you are moving to a more central location to make commuting easier however if you travel by car, having a parking space is becoming a big premium. With many homes now having 2+ cars in their homes, marking is becoming a bit of a luxury and it makes such a difference to your home when you have been at work for a long day.

Things have changed over the years, with more people being on the road than ever before. When we brought our home, parking down our road was not too bad and you could almost always get parked up outside the house when you got back. Now you have to time it to get back outside your home or you will have a bit of a walk on your hands and this is only going to get worse.

It never used to bother me too much but when you are trying to unload your car from the food shop and you have to carry it down the street, it can get a little annoying!

Space –

Depending on your plans for your home and future, you will need to start thinking ahead about the space in your home. If you have not started a family but maybe thinking about it then thinking about a home that you can grow into is a great idea or maybe a home with space to expand.

It might not even be about a family space, you might be starting to think about starting a business and might want to consider an office space.

Either way, try to think about the plans ahead. You don’t need to know exactly how life will pan out but being prepared for the future is a great way to save you a little in future on the costs of moving!

Moving home is a big decision and one that can be a bit daunting at times. Making sure you have an idea of what you want to buy and the maximum you are looking to spend will help to ensure that you don’t get carried away in the emotion of a new home.
