Choosing the right flooring for your home can make a lot of difference to your rooms, like wall colours, the colour of your flooring can make a huge difference to the light in that room.
A lot of this, however, is dependant on what you are going to use those rooms for. As an example, it is highly unlikely you are going to be putting carpet in a bathroom. I know some do, however, it is not very hygienic and it is likely to get wet too often too.
So if you are looking to put in new flooring in your home, what things should you be considering?
- Location – First thing to consider is the location of the flooring. As mentioned above, some floorings work better than others in certain rooms. Once you have your shortlist of potential floorings for that area, it will be easier to narrow down which one you are going with.
- Durability – If the area you are planning the flooring for is high traffic, you want to ensure the flooring you pick can cope with the traffic through. Even if you are planning to have carpet in this area, you are able to get certain grade carpets that are made to stand the traffic coming through.
- Pricing – This will obviously affect any decision you make here, for example, if you are after a wooden floor, a solid wooden floor is going to cost more however it will be more durable and last longer in the end. However, it is not something that is in everyone’s budget. Once you have picked the type of flooring you are going to pick, take a little time to do some research on the options you have in your price range.
- Installation – No matter what type of flooring you go for, you need to consider the installation. We have tiled floors and carpet in our home, however, on both occasions, we have had professionals do the installation as this is just not something we are comfortable in doing.
Flooring options have come a long way in recent years and I am sure they will continue to evolve, just remember though it is a big investment so you are going to want to ensure you select something you are going to love for a while.
