The best way to declutter your home

We’ve all been there, things start to appear in our home and before you know it, you have more bits and bobs in your house that you know what to do with! However, where do you start when it comes to starting to declutter your home?

I’m not a fan of clutter at all, our home is quite small so I have to make sure I keep on top of what we have in our home. I do this regularly so it doesn’t feel like so much of a chore, however, it can still take a while to get through a room when you have 2 children!

If you are looking for the best way to declutter your home, here are my top tips to get started:

  1. Take it one room at a time – Sometimes you may think you just want to get started on it all, however, taking on too much at once can take up too much time and energy. Little and often is much a much better approach than all at once!
  2. Be ruthless – Unfortunately, you need to be ruthless when it comes to decluttering. I go by the 6-month rule, if I’ve not used/worn it in 6 months then the chances are I’m not going to need it going forward.
  3. Don’t just bin things – Once you start to declutter your rooms, you do not need to bin everything. If things are still in good condition you have a few options for them, you could either sell them, gift them or donate them. It is always worth looking at the quality of what you have before you just chuck it away.
  4. Organise as you go – As you are working through the rooms it is worth taking the time to get organised. So take the chance to organised your cables and label them if you work out what they are for! Put your paperwork away in a filing folder and organise as you go.
  5. Keep on top of it – Keeping clutter down is easy to do once you are on top of things. If you regularly spend a little time decluttering, it will save you so much time in future.

Decluttering may seem like a boring and long job to do, however once you get started on getting it cleared, you will feel so much better for it. After all, if you are decluttering items that you can sell, you will be boosting not only your space but also your bank balance.
