Can you really have a dream kitchen on a budget?
The kitchen is the heart of the home for many, however, it can also be one of the most expensive rooms in the house to revamp and bring a new lease of life to. Depending on the size of the room, it is estimated the average cost of a basic kitchen installed is between £5000-£6000 up to £14,000 for the top of the range lines. We all have an idea of our dream kitchen in our heads or if you are like me, pinned to your Pinterest account!
For many people just looking to refresh the room, this may be a bit too much for their budget. There are lots of other ways to bring a new lease of life to your kitchen without blowing the budget and sometimes it doesn’t mean you need to completely overhaul the kitchen to achieve this. Having a dream kitchen on a budget doesn’t mean you have to skip corners either, you can make it look amazing no matter what budget you have.
5 ways to revamp your kitchen on a budget
- Replacing the cupboard doors – If your kitchen units are looking a little dated, why not simply change the unit doors for a new modern look. Unless your kitchen is custom made, you will be able to get new cabinet doors to fit from any good DIY store. As long as your cupboard units are in good condition, this option is far cheaper than ripping it all out and starting again. If a couple of your units are a little worse for wear around the bracket area, you are able to get plates that cover the area and attach the hinges without you needing to replace the unit. We discovered these recently and they are amazing!
- A fresh coat of paint – Sometimes all the room needs is a fresh coat of paint to bring back a new look. With so many different things cooking in your kitchen, the walls can start to look a little grubby over time. Make sure you give them a good wash down first and then once they are dry you can give them a paint. Personally, I like to use the paints that are fairly light in our kitchen to help bounce the light around as all the units seem to make the room feel a little smaller.
- Change your colour scheme – Most of us have a colour scheme in the kitchen, you know the pots for tea bags and utensils etc. If you have had your kitchen for a while but fancy a change, why not change these smaller items to change the look of a kitchen. It is amazing how much impact something so small can make on your room and this really is a revamp kitchen on a budget!
- Paint or cover your existing tiles – If you have inherited some awful tiles or maybe are looking to change the colour theme of your kitchen, why not look at changing the tiles. You don’t need to blow the budget these days though with changing all the tiles. There are now options on the market such as tile paint and even vinyl to cover your tiles. This way you can get the impact you want without blowing all your budget.
- Get painting – I know we discussed replacing the cupboard doors on your units, however, there is a cheaper way to brighten your kitchen up without taken these off. You are now able to get both vinyl for doors and paint. This will allow you to use the existing doors but refresh them ready to give your home a new look. Doing it this way is also a fraction of the cost of replacing the doors completely.
In an ideal world, most of us would like to completely replace our kitchen with fresh new ones that have the latest appliances and conveniences. However, this is not always an option. Don’t be disheartened though, you are able to revamp your kitchen on a budget and still make a real impact in your home.
